Types of Glass Sinks

To better understand the main types of glass bathroom sinks, we should understand the three main types of glass activity and how they are made:

Cold Glass:

Handling glass at room temperature. This will hold true for:

  • Mosaic Glass
  • Stained Glass
  • Glass Carving
  • Glass Etching.

Warm Glass

Handling glass at temperatures between 1100 and 1700 degrees Fahrenheit.  This will hold true for:

  • Glass Fusing
  • Glass Slumping
  • Glass Kiln forming techniques

Hot Glass

Handling and blowing glass using a heater that melts the glass at 2200 degrees Fahrenheit. When the glass is accumulated on the finish of a pipe, the designer styles the hot glass using an oven that preserves a temperature of about 1200 degrees Fahrenheit. The produced work is then gradually chilled in an annealing oven.

Major Glass Bathroom Sink Types

There are three main types of glass sinks you will find:

1- Fused & Slumped
Glass fusing is the procedure of joining pieces of glass. When the right type of glass is warmed up and then chilled effectively, the producing fused glass piece will be strong and unbroken. Using fusing methods, the designer makes styles and models in color. The resulting piece of fused glass is then slumped into the vessel form. In the slumping approach the glass is set into, or on top of a pattern and warmed just to the point where it "Slumps" to match the form of the pattern. Once the glass reaches the preferred style it must be chilled rapidly enough to avoid the movement that will result in breaking. Despite the fact that this might seem easy, the produced sinks can be fairly sophisticated in their style.

2- Hand Blown Glass Sinks/Blown Glass
Hand blown glass sinks are produced through a significantly distinct process. This "hot glass" process enables a designer to make variety unique styles, colors, forms and sizes that are often exclusive. Sheets of glass are "compiled" onto the end of a "rod" or "pipe" and produced, blown and labored into a vessel shape. Color is applied in many unique styles at the beginning of the approach. Once completed, the piece is "annealed" for at least 48 hours for optimum strength. Due to modifications in the glass blowing method, every sink will be distinctive.

3- Mosaic Glass
Annealing is a process of twisting the glass at incredibly high temperatures to assure longevity of use in the most intense temperature circumstances. The sink is then grouted with a exclusively mixed combination of sand and colored cement, then sealed and completed with a shielding clear polymer layer to create a sleek exterior which is colorful, durable, easy to care for and a spectacular central stage for any bathroom.
